Matrox logo

The Matrox video cards, widely known in narrow circles, are still being produced and cost a lot of money. The current range of products from the Canadian company Matrox today is represented by dozens of models. The latest version of drivers for any Matrox video card can be downloaded for free from the links at the bottom of this page https://drivers.us.com/video/matrox from the manufacturer's official website.

Brief overview and interesting facts from history

Matrox video adapters have proven themselves to be the best in such professional areas of activity as creating and editing raster and vector graphics, drawings, 2-D and 3-D models, video editing, work in the television broadcasting industry, in sets of exhibition, presentation and medical equipment. In such cases, the frequency of the graphics processor and the frequency of the memory of the video output device are not as important as the geometric correctness of the picture on the screen, support for multi-monitor configurations and high RAMDAC.

In the early 2000s, many graphic designers, designers, and video engineers bought 450 or 550 Mattresses for their homes, on the one hand, for extra income, and on the other hand, for the sake of high-quality images on the screen. The performance of the Matrox Millennium G200, G400, G450, G550 video adapters was sufficient. They coped well with such important home tasks as playing computer games of average complexity and watching movies and other video content. There were drawings on the Internet for soldering the Matrox D-SUB to RGB SCART (VGA - SCART RGB) adapter on resistors, transistors, and microcircuits. Such an adapter allowed you to transmit a signal from the computer's video output to a regular TV with the highest possible image quality. This is not surprising, since Canadian professional graphics cards and software have authority in the video and TV hardware market.

About Matrox

Founded in 1976, Matrox, Inc. has more than 40 years of experience and today produces a variety of high-tech products. Headquartered in Dorval, near Montreal (Quebec, Canada) and with international offices around the world (United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, China), Matrox employs approximately 1,000 people. The company has four strategically important divisions. Their specialization does not include the sphere of 3D gaming video accelerators:

  • - M Graphics - multi-monitor systems,
  • - M Video - video editing and TV broadcasting,
  • - M Imaging - machine vision systems,
  • - M Networks - network devices and complexes.

It is symbolic that in the 21st millennium after the release of the Millennium series accelerators on the MGA-2064W graphics chip, the Matrox brand slowly began to decline. The Canadian company gradually lost the fight for the niche of 3D video accelerators to NVIDIA Corporation and ATI Technologies (and then Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.). And even the use of the AMD Radeon chip in the Matrox C420 and C680 video cards did not improve the situation. Today, Matrox is focused on the video distribution and broadcasting market, video production, multi-monitor configurations, video solutions for medicine, education and certain industrial sectors.

Matrox C-Series: C420, C680, C900

The youngest in the line of four-monitor low-profile Matrox C420 LP is equipped with 2 GB of GDDR5, PCIe 3.0 x 16, 128-bit interface and passive cooling system. The image with a maximum resolution of 2560 x 1600 is stretched to all connected displays.

Six-monitor video card Matrox C680 (C680-E2GBF) PCI Express 3.0 x 16, 128-bit with 2 GB GDDR5 and active cooling. Matrox C680-E4GBF was equipped with 4 GB GDDR5. Both cards are equipped with AMD Cape Verde graphics chip, which works in Radeon HD 7xxx boards and junior models of the R7 series.

The most powerful in the line nine-monitor video card Matrox C900 PCIe x16 3.0 is based on a more productive Radeon chip, equipped with 4 GB GDDR5, additional TMDS transmitters and 9 Mini-HDMI 1.4 connectors. The graphics adapter provides 1920 x 1200 at 60 Hz on nine displays simultaneously, so the final image of the digital video wall will be 5760 x 3600 at 60 Hz. Two maximum configurations are possible: a 3 x 3 video wall and a 9 x 1 video panorama. It can be used with Mura IPX.

The manufacturer guarantees the compatibility of the Matrox C680, C900 and PowerDesk video card drivers with 32-bit and 64-bit Windows 7, 8.1, 10, 11, as well as Server 2008 R2/2012 R2. Compatibility with DirectX 12, OpenGL 4.4 and 1.2 is supported. Synchronous operation and color identity of all video wall screens is ensured, so that a separate fragment of the image does not stand out on any of the displays.

Graphics eXpansion Modules DualHead2Go / TripleHead2Go

Previously, the DS1 Thunderbolt docking station (Intel-compatible) with additional inputs and outputs for MacBooks and miniature laptops was popular with users. Via DS1, it is possible to connect a monitor via DVI or HDMI, a full-size keyboard, mouse, audio headset, headphones, speakers, microphone, gigabit Ethernet local network cable, as well as other USB 3.0 / 2.0 peripherals.

The Dual-Link Extio F1240 PCI or PCI Express console switch allows you to output images to thirty-inch displays 2560 x 1600. Additionally, there are 6 USB 2.0 ports, audio inputs and outputs.

DualHead2Go (D2G-DP2D-IF, D2G-DP2D-MIF, D2G-A2D-IF) and TripleHead2Go (T2G-DP3D-IF, T2G-DP-MIF, T2G-D3D-IF) are not video accelerators, but devices that stretch the image onto two and three monitors. GXM DualHead2Go and TripleHead2Go allow you to connect four or six monitors, respectively. This functionality will be useful for professionals in 2D and 3D graphics, animation, as well as stock traders and gamers. TripleHead2Go is compatible with Surround Gaming, which works with many popular games. The kit includes video drivers and PowerDesk software for configuring monitors.

Drivers from Matrox have always been and are the standard of quality and performance. The level of detail in their development allows you to get maximum performance, display quality and implement all the capabilities of the PC graphics subsystem. Most Matrox video cards support OpenGL, DirectX, standard 3D functions, the ability to connect multiple monitors and a rich set of settings.

The settings allow you to select the resolution, screen refresh rate, number of colors, adjust the position and geometry of the image. Each time you change the mode, the monitor is tested for compliance with the parameters. After successfully passing the test, the settings come into effect. The screen refresh rate changes in increments of up to one hertz, other parameters are also available for fine tuning. This allows you to use the monitor's capabilities to the maximum of documented parameters.

The number of supported monitors includes many models from Acer, ASUS, BenQ, Dell, HP, LG, NEC, Philips, Samsung, Sony, ViewSonic and other manufacturers. If the monitor is not in the database, it is easy to create a custom monitor with unique parameters.
